SWQO_022607_0025.JPG This past Tuesday, the 26th of February, the Shotgun Wedding Hip Hop Symphony played to a packed house at Bruno’s.   Once again, Bruno’s was filled with those seeking good music and a good time.    The first set got the crowd moving, as the band played favorites like Primetime Man (Dublin’s party starter,) The Beat and Culture of Life.  The Symphony players contribute so much to these songs that the arrangements just have to be heard.  There is depth added, stemming from the unexpected interlacing of so many different instruments that you don’t expect to fit in songs like those. Infinite, from Felonius, stepped to the mic and added some rhymes.  If you have not seen Dublin and Infinite throwing bars back and forth, you are missing out.  Both of these MCs are talented writers, but their freestyle skills are where it’s at.  Mixing in each other’s words and contemporary topics (we’re talking the week’s, or even day’s, news) these guys create lyrical vignettes that stick in your brain. SWQO_022607_0063.JPG
Lady Ohsofly was visiting from New York and treated the house to a set during the break.  These ladies have nice voices and write very well.  They had quite a crew with them too!           SWQO_022607_0141.JPG
The second set was just as live as the first, with some great solos by Mike Olmos, Graham Jennings and Anthony Bleah.  It closed out as it usually does, with guest MCs spittin’ before the band comes back in to close it out.  Davu, Seneca and Infinite took turns trading words. The night was a lot of fun and the energy was way up.  Thanks to all of you who made it out on a Winter Tuesday evening and helped make the night great!   As always, check out the gigs page on this site, and the Jazz Mafia Flickr page for more pics!
